Senior Apartments

Many seniors are opting to live in senior apartments. Senior apartments are individual units designed for the more active senior. Senior apartments are also known as Congregate Living, Independent Living, and Retirement Communities. Many senior apartments are designed to offer recreational activities for seniors and are filled with programs, field trips, excursions, and lots of cultural activities. Many senior apartments are located near big cities or on a public transportation line, to allow for even greater freedom and access to cultural events. Some of the senior apartments have wellness programs, yet they do not provide for residential care.

Some features include light housekeeping, restaurant or cafeteria-style meals that are prepared, paid utilities, and convenient apartment access. Some amenities included with senior apartments include large closets; free parking, security systems, and some will provide free transportation to local facilities.

One of the best features of senior apartments is the sense of community. By housing many seniors in their own apartments, it is easy for seniors to find friendship and companionship. Many senior apartments offer a host of activities that will keep seniors active and interacting with other seniors. Some of these activities include dance, golf, swimming, aerobics, educational speakers, gardening, bingo, library, reading rooms, holiday activities, and musical entertainment programs. Activities will vary from senior apartment complex to the next, so make sure that you find out everything the apartment has to offer before making your final decision.

Senior apartments are the perfect choice for many seniors who are still active enough to live on their own, yet want the reassurance that living in a community will provide. Though senior apartments are not assisted care facilities, many senior apartments are incorporating wellness programs and facilities so that seniors will have close access to care. Wellness programs may consist of such benefits as swimming pools, locker rooms, weight training facilities, and therapeutic rooms. These activities help encourage seniors to stay active and fit and take control over their health.
